Dennis showed me enough HTML code to be dangerous, but writing in HTML seemed an awful lot like work to me.

So I put this site together using Microsoft Publisher 98.  It's a big improvement over Publisher 97.  And if you just HAVE to write HTML, it will allow you to insert HTML code fragments.

The vertical navigation bars were built from scratch using PhotoImpact.  The horizontal navigation bars (at the bottom of each page) were built from images  lifted from Woodcraft Supply's Web page.  Each image shows a different wood, natural and 'clear stained'.  The woods are (from left to right),
Rosewood, Redoak, Walnut, Poplar, Cherry and Maple.

There are numerous animated GIFs throughout these pages… some built from  scratch, some simply lifted from someone's clipart and some lifted and 'customized".  (Appears to me to be a tough and tedious way of making a living).

The pages have a lot of graphics so I suppose load times are pretty long.  I view the pages either from my local drive or via a 64kb ISDN line (but I do have to FTP them on a 14.4 modem… Relco's proxy server doesn't like FTP). If you visit often enough, most of them should be cached.  Microsoft Publisher turns all images into GIFs - JPGs generally become larger and lose resolution (I think they end up as about 256-color images).  I've found a 'work-around', clumsy but it works and Dennis and I will use it on our 'Trip' page.
